About the content of the Enneagram Retreat:
It’s pretty typical, in the process of gathering knowledge, to get some basic understandings in place and then go no further. I’ve done it plenty with any number of topics. We can’t master everything anyway, and sometimes a little goes a long way. But if you'll join me, I'd like to get you past the point you've gotten to so far with the Enneagram, so that you can benefit more deeply from this amazing system that can support your evolution over time and your total well-being in the now. The Enneagram, in fact, lays out a human journey, and offer presence as the key to transcending (or simply choosing outside of) your type's strategy.
I have four intentions for this retreat:
Some of the questions we may encounter and work with (to be specifically determined by what happens on the spot and where your curiosity is):
I have none. I’m not a master of the Enneagram. I seem to hold the belief that this takes many years of deep study, because this system is so gorgeously complex and sophisticated.
That said, I've been on a years-long journey of misunderstanding and understanding this amazing tool, and there’s so much I have to share. How I support clients to know and work with their types has tremendously deepened over my 9 years as a coach, and it just keeps getting richer. So please join me if you'd like to go deeper with me, and if you don’t need me to have credentials or certification — because I DON’T HAVE ANY SUCH THING, NOR DO I CLAIM MASTERY! (Ah, how Fours love that authenticity/integrity thing.)
Note that I’ve been blessed with some amazing teachers along the way and I’m currently immersed in a 17-week online course. I pretty much drool during the class sessions—I’m so enamored of my teachers’ easy articulation from the depths. I’m learning from the amazing Russ Hudson (longstanding fave) and the badass Jessica Dibb (quickly catching up to fave status). They're all about deep, present embodiment of the truths the Enneagram points us to. I mention this because we’ll give plenty of focus to presence (and we'll enter in experientially) during this weekend in order to understand why it’s the key to unraveling the illusions of our type, our automatic reactions, how we think we must be in the world to be safe, functional, and happy.
So you’ve gotten as far as you’ve gotten in understanding your type. I promise there’s more, and we can play and work with it in deeply satisfying ways (ways specific to you and your concerns) on this retreat that’s likely to leave you feeling much more equipped to love being you (and to love those you love). The Enneagram goes so deep and wide and eventually invites you out of type altogether, because your type is never who you are: it’s your personality adaptation to navigate the treacherous waters here, and to hum along most comfortably when those waters are calm.
During the weekend, we’ll spend time on each of the types, with a focus on finding how we embody and express every single one. You'll feel that fascinating and instantly familiar sense of coming home when we're on your type, and it will be clear how you play that particular one out more than the others.
We’re going to play too. My retreats are deep and fun and soulful and heartfelt, and we typically laugh no matter what other feelings and moods come in. I plan to PLAY with this idea of caricatures. And we’ll push back our sleeves and get serious too, or put on our life jackets and jump into the depths, or … insert your favorite let’s-do-this cliché right here. Finally, we won't stay in the theoretical. We'll have experiential bodily connection (and, I hope, knowing) related to the concepts of how presence is the key to unlocking your personality strategy.
Want to talk to me about attending? A conversation is required, as I want to get clarity about your understanding of your type and go from there. If you’re on my client roster, it may need to be only a brief conversation! Please use the contact form below or simply write me at email@example.com.
